This transceiver is specifically designed for NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand and Spectrum-4 Ethernet switches. The finned-top design is required for proper thermal management in air-cooled switch environments, while a flat-top variant (MMA4Z00-NS-FLT) is available for liquid-cooled systems and DGX H100 platforms.
The transceiver supports both straight and 1:2 splitter multimode fiber cables with MPO-12/APC connectors. Straight cables maintain 400Gb/s per port, while splitter cables enable 200Gb/s connectivity to multiple endpoints. Both cables in a twin-port configuration must be the same type (either both straight or both splitters).
The transceiver firmware detects whether it's installed in an InfiniBand or Ethernet switch and automatically configures the appropriate protocol. This eliminates the need for separate part numbers for different networking environments and simplifies inventory management.
